Isaac

I teach modern world history to teenagers. I am in the process of learning to teach english to the same market.

I am self-employed as a private tutor, I used to be several things job-wise: an insurance underwriter and credit analyst, a life-insurance sales person, a public school history teacher to troubled teens (of which I have my fondest work-related memories), but work-wise I have settled on teaching history and english - the sense of life it brings me is unlike the other endeavours I have tried.

My journey of faith started in my own home through the witness of my sister in my childhood, which was filled with dysfunction and many bad memories.

In the midst of that, God called me into a life-changing experience of His love, I had aspired to be a pastor in my youth as a fresh new believer and spent my youth studying - my favourite authors and teachers to this day are A.B. Simpson and Andrew Murray, whom I owe much in my journey of building a spiritual foundation.

Early in my journey I discovered CS Lewis, whose work 'The Great Divorce', a fictional work on the realities of heaven - captured me, and branded my heart with an impression that does not fade to this day.

I have spent several years in several church traditions, serving whenever possible- in the reformed, presbyterian and the pentecostal/charismatic circles. Each have their strengths in their individual perspectives of scripture and each have contributed precious gems, insights, truths which I hold to this day.

These days I am a part of a currently small, organic home based gathering with children. I can't see myself going back to the institutional church, but I am not against it in any fashion - i subscribe to the views of Noel Cole in 'Organic Church', which drastically changed my perception of church, together with a vivid dream of being in a thriving house church environment. I cannot shake the feeling that I am called to be part of a body which emphasises the unity, priesthood and equal participation of all believers, regardless of position, rank in society or church before the presence of God.
